REASONS TO VISIT

 Mauritania

Mauritania is a rich mosaic of ethnic groups that reflects the past of a territory that has been at the crossroads since time immemorial.

Formerly known as "Biiad Chinguitt", Mauritania covers an area of 1,030,100 km2 and was, for centuries, a center of cultural influence where the propagation and acquisition of knowledge dominated the lives of men and constituted uninterrupted activity.
The empires (Ghana, Almoravides, etc.) that have succeeded each other, have made Mauritania a land of fertile exchanges, and ethnic and a rich and diverse cultural intermingling.

Administratively, the country is subdivided into 13 wilayas (regions) and 53 moughataas (prefectures).

The main treks generally travel the country of the mountains (Adrar and Tagant) and the sand cities founded in the 12th and 12th centuries: Ouadane, Chinguetti, Tichit and Oualata, magical names and evident reminiscences of a glorious Saharan past.
